La Carafe &
The Hearsay

Houston, Texas

Season 1 - Episode 3  |  22 minutes  |  2023

As seen on many news segments and other publications, La Carafe has long been sought after for paranormal happenings since it has the longest-running history in Houston. Although many of the staff haven't personally experienced anything themselves, guests and those with paranormal abilities have an instant sense of something present that has been hanging around since the 1800s. The Hearsay is a beautiful historic restaurant that also is without exception when it comes to hauntings. Unlike LaCarafe, guests, staff and everyone here has seemed to have encounter after encounter which has led to many not wanting to close up at night alone.

La Carafe Location History

La Carafe is a historic bar located in downtown Houston, Texas. The building that houses the bar was constructed in 1860 and is one of the oldest remaining buildings in the city.

Originally built as a bakery, the building has been used for a variety of purposes over the years, including as a coffeehouse, a boarding house, and a brothel. In the early 20th century, the building was converted into a saloon and was known as the "Old Market Square Saloon."

La Carafe was established in 1963 and has been in continuous operation ever since. The bar is known for its relaxed atmosphere and its selection of wine and beer. The interior of the bar has remained largely unchanged since the early 20th century and features a long wooden bar, brick walls, and a tin ceiling.

La Carafe has been recognized as a historic landmark by the City of Houston, and it is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The bar is a popular destination for locals and visitors alike, and its history and charm make it a unique and beloved fixture in downtown Houston.

The Hearsay Location History

The Hearsay is a popular restaurant and bar located in downtown Houston, Texas. The building that houses The Hearsay was constructed in the early 1900s and has a long and varied history.

Originally built as a commercial office building, the building has been used for a variety of purposes over the years, including as a hotel, a clothing store, and a speakeasy during the Prohibition era. The building also served as a meeting place for the Houston chapter of the NAACP during the civil rights era.

In the 1980s, the building was renovated and converted into a restaurant and bar, known as the Houston Club. The Houston Club was a popular destination for businesspeople and politicians, and it remained in operation until the early 2000s.

The Hearsay opened in 2009 and has since become a popular destination for locals and visitors alike. The restaurant and bar feature a contemporary American menu and a sophisticated cocktail program, as well as a sleek and stylish interior that pays homage to the building's history.

Behind The Scenes

We absolutely love historic places and when you add ghosts, count us in. We had such a great experience here and honestly didn't want to leave because of the entire vibe. The spirits here were hesitant at first but eventually, we were able to communicate and have an experience of our own. The Hearsay was filled with even more surprises. What we didn't expect was that a restaurant guest that very night was visited by one of the more popular spirits here before we even arrived. Luckily she stuck around for us too!
